Enzo Ghinazzi, known to the world as Pupo, was born in 1955 in Ponticino, Tuscany — the son of a mailman and a mother with a passion for music and theatre.
He debuted in 1975 with Ti scriverò and soon rose to fame with albums like Come sei bella (1976) and Gelato al cioccolato (1979), whose unforgettable singles Ciao and Gelato al cioccolato became instant Italian classics. His breakthrough came in 1980 at the Sanremo Festival with Su di noi, followed by timeless hits such as Firenze Santa Maria Novella.
A gifted songwriter, Pupo also wrote Sarà perché ti amo for Ricchi e Poveri, one of the most beloved Italian pop songs of all time. Over nearly five decades, he has released dozens of albums, earned multiple gold records, and performed on stages across Europe and beyond.
Beyond music, Pupo became a familiar face on Italian television, hosted prime-time RAI shows, and lent his voice to animated films. He is also the author of two autobiographies and a novel — a multifaceted artist, loved across generations for his authenticity, warmth, and emotional truth.
